Doggy Casserole

1 cup boiled chicken or turkey, chopped

½ cup cooked brown rice

½ cup boiled mixed vegetables

3 to 4 Tbsp unsalted chicken broth

(Note: Salmon may occasionally be substituted for boiled poultry, with chicken broth omitted.)

Stir together and serve at room temperature. A good doggy multivitamin/mineral supplement may be added for good measure. Be sure to store unused portions in a covered container in the refrigerator and discard remains after 3 days.

Note: make extra sure that all bones have been removed!!!

Doggy Hamburger Helper

1 cup hamburger meat, stir-fried in 1 tbsp canola oil

2 boiled eggs, chopped

½ cup cooked plain oatmeal

1 jar baby food green beans

1 jar baby food carrots

2 Tbsp cottage cheese

Combine all ingredients and serve at room temperature. A good doggy multivitamin/mineral supplement may be added for good measure. Be sure to store unused portions in a covered container in the refrigerator and discard any remains after 3 days.

Grinding Eggshells for Homemade Pet Food

  • Collect eggshells as you use eggs
  • Wash the eggshells under cold water
  • Let the eggshells dry off on the stove-top or in the sun.
Once the egg shells are dry, bake them at 300° F. This helps to make the egg shells even more dry and brittle for easier grinding. In addition, this helps to get rid of the mineral oils that have been applied to the egg shells to keep them from drying out in the store.

Add egg shells to a blender, grinder, etc. and grind. Keep grinding until there are no sharp pieces. The egg shells should become a powder although it most likely will not be a fine powder. Use a sifter or strainer to remove large and sharp pieces of egg shells.

Homemade Dog Treats: Chow Chicken

Chow Chicken

You must remove the meat from the bones in this recipe. Chicken bones can easily splinter and cause choking problems in dogs.
  • 2 chicken thighs -- or white meat
  • 1 stalk celery -- sliced thick
  • 3 carrot -- peeled and halved
  • 2 small potatoes -- peeled and cubed
  • 2 cups rice -- uncooked
Place chicken pieces in large pot. Cover with cold water (5 -6 cups). Add carrots, celery, and potatoes to water. Add salt to taste if you want. Cover and simmer on low heat about 2 hours until the chicken becomes tender. Add the rice, cover and cook over low heat for about 30 minutes until the rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Remove soup from heat. Pull the chicken meat off the bone ( it will practically fall off), discard bones. Return shredded pieces to pot. Stir well. Let cool. Store in the refrigerator or freeze.

Doggy Meatloaf with Vegetables

This is a simple, easy and nutritious recipe to use as a substitute for canned dog food.

INGREDIENTS

* 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
* 3 stalks celery, chopped
* 2 carrots, grated
* 1 apple, cored and diced
* 2 eggs
* 2 slices white bread, torn into pieces
* 1 cup regular rolled oats
* 1 cup wheat germ
* 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
* 4 medium potatoes, cubed
* 3 carrots, chopped
* 1 stalk celery, cubed

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a large roasting pan with oil and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, 3 stalks of celery, grated carrots, apple, eggs, bread, oats, wheat germ and tomato paste using your hands. Divide the meat mixture into four equal parts and make loaf shapes. Place the loaves in the roasting pan. Surround them with the potatoes, remaining carrots and remaining celery. Cover the pan with a lid.
3. Bake for 80 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the meat is cooked through. The internal temperature should be 175 degrees F (80 degrees C) when taken with a meat thermometer. Allow to cool.
4. Portion the food into containers with one loaf and one quarter of the vegetables in each one. Refrigerate. To serve, give your dog 1/3 of a container with each portion of kibble.

Easy Homemade Dog Food

This is a very quick and simple homemade dog food recipe.

* 6 cups water

* 1 pound ground turkey
* 2 cups brown rice
* 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
* 1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower combination

Place the water, ground turkey, rice, and rosemary into a large pot. Stir until the ground turkey is broken up and evenly distributed throughout the mixture; bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the frozen vegetables, and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Refrigerate until using.

Homemade Dog Treat - Birthday Cake

This is my pooch's favorite dog treat, homemade birthday cake!!

1 cup of whole wheat flour
1tsp of baking soda
1/4 cup of peanut butter
1/4 cup of vegetable oil
1tsp of vanilla extract
1/3 cup of honey
1 egg
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
Yogurt drops

First, get all the ingredients listed above. Double them if you want a really large cake for canine guests. Preheat the oven to 350°F(180°C) Now, take a large bowl and mix together the whole wheat flour and baking soda. Add the remaining ingredients too. Mix together well, or until the cake batter is smooth. Spray the ring mold tin (that you will bake the cake in) (or a bone-shaped tin) with non-stick cooking spray. Put the cake batter into the ring mold (or a bone-shaped cake tin that you can buy from pet birthday sites).

Bake for 40 minutes

Frost this cake with peanut butter for frosting and yogurt drops for sprinkles! Cut a slice of the cake for your pup. Sing "Happy Birthday!". This is a wonderful homemade dog treat.

Homemade Dog Treats - Dog Breath Mints

Homemade Dog Treat - Doggy Breath Mints . An oldy but goody.

1/4 cup mint
3-5 salt-free crackers
water

Crush the crackers. You'll need enough to stick to the mint. Don't use too many crackers or this will over-power the effect of the mint.
Finely chop mint into fine pieces.

Mix with crackers and add enough water to allow mint and crackers stick together and form into small 1/4 inch balls.
Lay each individual ball on top of waxed paper placed on a plate.

Place into freezer until frozen. Give to your dogs when needed!

Homemade Dog Treats from Baby Food?

I found this homemade dog treat recipe somewhere on the net quite some time ago. Make dog treats with baby food? Yep!

* One 3.5-ounce jar of strained-meat baby food (no salt added AND NO ONION OR ONION POWDER added), beef or veal recommended.
* 1/2 cup powdered skim milk
* 3/4 cup wheat germ

REGULAR OVEN DIRECTIONS

In a cold oven, move rack to top third of oven. Preheat to 275 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet with butter or cooking oil (spray-on oil works well). Mix ingredients in a medium-size bowl.

Scoop morsels out of the bowl with teaspoon-size measuring spoon. Fill the teaspoon evenly, not heaping. Drop morsels onto greased cookie sheet about one-half inch apart. (They don’t spread while cooking as regular cookies do.)

Bake for 11 to 12 minutes, but watch carefully so the bottoms don’t get too brown. Remove from the oven and place pan on wire rack to cool. Makes approximately 45 doggie cookies.

MICROWAVE OVEN DIRECTIONS

Place a small number of morsels on waxed paper on a plate and cover with another plate turned upside down. Microwave on high 2 to 4 minutes,depending on power of microwave. Take top plate off as treats cool or they might get soggy. Let the treats cool completely. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 10 days. Put extras in plastic bags in the freezer for up to two months. Thaw in the refrigerator before using.

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe - Doggy's Best Friend Biscuits

2 teaspoons dried yeast
1/2 cup simi-warm water
2 tablespoons dry parsley
1/2 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons honey
1 egg
5-6 cups whole wheat flour

Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 ° F, around 180 ° C.

Take a large bowl and dissolve yeast in the simi-warm water. Mix in the parsley, garlic, chicken broth, honey, and the egg. Slowly mix in the flour, adding in enough to form a stiff dough.

Move the dough to a floured surface. Go ahead and knead the dough until its smooth, about 4minutes or so. Mold the dough into a ball, and roll to 1/4-inch, 6 mm, thickness. If you want ... use a small bone-shaped cookie cutters to make biscuits! Transfer to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.

Bake for 30 minutes and then remove from oven and turn over. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until lightly browned on both sides. Let cool overnight. (After we finish baking all batches of biscuits, we turn off the oven, then spread all the biscuits out on one baking sheet and set them in the oven to cool overnight. The extra time in the oven as it cools off helps make the treats crispier and crunchier.)

Makes several dozen small bones that keep and freeze well. Your pups will love this homemade dog treat!
